In view of the soulful performance by the Shillong Chamber Choir for the Exposition, the veneration of the relics of St Francis Xavier will be closed early at 5 pm for the public on Friday, December 27.

The award-winning, multi-genre choir will render both religious and non-religious recitals on the occasion; however, the focus will be more on the ongoing festive season.

Law Minister Aleixo Sequeira on Thursday chaired a meeting to discuss the preparation for the Choir, which was attended by the officials and exposition committee members.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Exposition Committee coordinator Fr Henry Falaco said that the world-famous Shillong Chamber Choir will render their soulful performance at Old Goa on Friday and, in view of that, the veneration of the relics will be closed early at 5pm.

He said that the main gate of veneration will be closed at 5 pm instead of 6 pm, as the three-hour-long show is set to begin from 7 pm onwards.

Stating that it’s going to be free entry for the event, Father has appealed to people to be seated by 6.45pm to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.

A special stage has been set up near Se Cathedral for the performance. “The Shillong Chamber Choir is one of the best choirs in India. There would be Christmas carols as well as hymns,” Fr Falcao said.

The choir won India’s Got Talent in 2010, and its versatility ranges from performances with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and the Fitz William Quartet. The choir also performed at Rashtrapati Bhavan for the former US President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama during their visit to India.
