The Special gram sabha of the Chinchinim village Panchayat on Sunday has called for a ban on conversion of agriculture land and bar on corporates from entering into the agriculture sector.
The gram sabha chaired by sarpanch Valentino Baretto called for evolving a solution on mangroves encroaching into large tracts of agricultural fields
Deliberating on the draft Agriculture policy, members resolved that the government must fund farmers' clubs/ associations/societies for those who are active in the field and maintain their books of record who are registered under the Society Registration Act 1860, ATMA, etc.
While suggesting farmers' shack, the members said the shack should come in handy for the farmers to sell their produce or even Goan traditional sweets, food, etc. which they can benefit to sustain their organization. They, however, made it clear the farmer’s shack should be given only for farmers organizations to erect wooden or coconut palm shacks with water and electricity.
While calling for strengthening of river banks with retaining walls or rubble with mud, the members further support construction of sluice gates wherever necessary.
The gram sabha called for revision of fencing price, while suggesting encouragement for community fencing. “New cash crops should be promoted by the government that benefits the farmers. Awareness programme must be conducted in schools n colleges”, Sarpanch Valentino said, while asserting that the gram sabha has called for a ban on corporates from entering the agriculture sector in the state.
