CANACONA
Enthusiasm was clearly lacking to discuss agriculture policy issues at the special Gram Sabhas in Canacona taluka on Monday.
While the Poinguinim gram sabha was the only one to discuss the issue but did not pass any resolution on the agriculture policy, none of the other panchayats gave much importance to discuss the agriculture policy.
Poinguinim Dy Sarpanch Sunil Paigankar, who chaired the special Gram Sabha in the absence of Sarpanch Savita Tawadkar, informed that people in agriculture sector were especially invited to attend the meet, and their suggestions were taken in consideration for the benefit of farmers in the upcoming agriculture policy.
Agonda Sarpanch Preetal Fernandes said the special Gram Sabha was briefly conducted and confirmed that the agriculture policy did not come up for discussion and nothing was decided on the issue.
At the Gram Sabha in Shristhal, no discussion took place on the agriculture policy, while three other resolutions were passed, including a motion to congratulate the government for granting 33% reservation for women and congratulating the Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Swachhta Din which enabled a mass cleanliness drive all over the country.
When contacted, Cotigao Sarpanch Anandu Desai also confirmed that the agriculture policy did not come up for discussion at their Gram Sabha.
There was, however, no response from the sarpanchas at Gaondongrim, Loliem-Polem and Khola, when asked if the Agriculture policy issues came up for discussion at the special Gram Sabha.
