MARGAO
There’s finally good news in store for Chinchinim villagers with the government giving administrative approval for the proposed construction of a Panchayat Ghar and multipurpose complex in the village.

The land for the project had been acquired over a decade and a half ago and the order issued by Panchayat Director, Siddhi T Halarnakar, has green-lighted the project after a long wait by the Chinchonkars. The order by the Panchayat Director has directed the Chinchinim village panchayat to take up the project for construction through the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation under Demand No 32 of the Finance Department.

Welcoming the government’s decision to accord an administrative nod for the project, Chinchinim Sarpanch Valentino Barretto said the decision is the first step before the project finally sees the light of day. “The government has accorded administrative approval for the project. Now, the crucial question of sanctioning of funds will come to the fore. The project is likely to cost the exchequer Rs 15 crore,” he said.

The Sarpanch, however, exuded confidence that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant would give financial sanction for the project at the earliest since the project is the need of the hour in the village.

Chinchinim Panchayat member Frank Viegas thanked the Chief Minister and Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho for the decisive order for the construction of the Panchayat Ghar cum multipurpose complex. “Your commitment to community development is truly appreciated. It was a long-pending dream of Chinchonkars, which will finally become a reality”, Viegas said.

The land acquisition process for the project was set in motion over a decade and a half ago, but the project was stuck controversially over the nature of the project that should come up on the acquired land.
