In a statement to the media, All India Congress Committee Secretary Girish Chodankar questioned how Parrikar can claim that those who won were BJP workers.
“BJP has won panchayat elections without contesting. BJP is master manipulator, it is manipulating winners as their candidates. Had they named the candidates before the elections people would have rejected many of them,” Chodankar said.
“At least BJP could have declared its official panel before the public ahead of the elections. On the contrary, BJP has done everything possible to manipulate delimitation and ward reservations to help their candidates and despite this people have rejected them,” he said urging the chief minister Parrikar “to be realistic, use government machinery and find out the ground reality about BJP losing their hold in the state.”
“You will be shocked Mr CM to see BJP lost in most of its strongholds,” he said.
“Parrikar has opened the shop for shopping panchayat members and to project them as BJP’s victors,” he said.
With regards to the Congress performance in the recent elections, Chodankar said the party would not be going to town with their workers who had won as it hadn’t done before the elections either. “As far as our party’s stand is concerned, we had kept ourselves away from local self-government elections in the past and this time too. People of Goa by and large have elected ‘our’ people who had contested. We thank and congratulate people of Goa for forming their own government in every village. We assure all the elected panchayat members our full support to work for the welfare of the people,” Chodankar said.
