Churchill raps police for not acting in LPG pilferage case

MARGAOr rHe has promised to raise the issue in the ensuing assembly session, pointing out that it affects thousands of gullible Goan families who are taken for a ride by unscrupulous gas agencies and their employees. rChurchill demanded that the government should make it mandatory for the gas agencies to first weigh the LPG cylinders at the doorstep of consumers before delivery. rAddressing the media, Churchill demanded that the police or the Civil Supplies department initiate action against the gas agency’s proprietor as well as the employees who are involved. r“I am surprised that the Colva police did not initiate action against the gas agency owner and the employees who were found pilfering gas from one cylinder into another,” he said. rThe Benaulim MLA said that he has taken up the matter with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, demanding that the government take up the issue seriously. r“This is an issue that affects thousands of families, who are taken for a ride by these unscrupulous agencies and employees. There ought to be strict action against the accused,” he demanded. rMeanwhile, Colva PI Filomena Costa has said that the case of alleged LPG pilferage has been handed over to the Civil Supplies department for investigation. r“I have been told that the Civil Supplies department is empowered to investigate into such cases. If the Civil Supplies department lodges a complaint with the police to initiate action against the culprits, the police will act accordingly,” PI Costa said.
