CANACONArrAccording to locals, the sea turtle was found on the beach late Friday morning, and initially many took it to be a mother turtle that had come to lay eggs, and hence decided not to disturb it. rBut by afternoon, when it was noticed that the turtle was at same spot, some boys crossed the Maxem river creek and on reaching the spot, the Olive Ridley was found to be injured and in a precarious condition. By the time forest officials were informed, the turtle breathed its last. Forest department officials later took the turtle away, informed a resident. rIt may be recalled that the government has acquired land at Galgibaga shore for setting up a Turtle Rehabilitation Centre, which has been reserved as a turtle protection site. At present, forest department is protecting the turtle nesting site of the endangered Olive Ridley’s.
Turtle at Maxem beach dies of injuries
An endangered Olive Ridley turtle with injuries to its front flap found its way to the shore at Maxem-Loliem, only to succumb to its injuries soon after it was noticed by residents.
