Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao on Monday paraded before the media sarpanchas and deputy sarpanchas elected from the three villages of Benaulim, Seraulim and Orlim out of the total seven villages in his constituency in the elections held on Monday.
Churchill, however, claimed that the group owing allegiance to him is heading the Cavelossim panchayat, though both the sarpanch and deputy were conspicuous by their absence at the group photo. Similarly, while Churchill claimed that though his group had swept the Colva panchayat, the group has been hit by division over the post of sarpanch.
Benaulim Sarpanch Diela Pereira and her deputy Menino de Bandar, Orlim Sarpanch Tamika D’Silva and deputy Keizar Martins and Seraulim Domingo Fernandes and deputy Maria V Fernandes along with other members from these three panchayats were present with Churchill for the media briefing.
“I had appealed to the people of Benaulim constituency to elect my candidates so that development takes place in all the villages. In Colva, my group has won nine out of nine seats, but there was difference of opinion on the choice of candidate for the post of sarpanch,” Churchill said.
