MARGAO

A group of citizens under the banner of Village Youth, Activists and Citizens Forum on Saturday held a protest near the Bolshe circle and demanded that the government constitute a high-level committee headed by an officer of the rank of a magistrate to investigate into the entire Sonsodo fire episode and other issues relating to the dump yard.

Saying that the cause of the fire is unnatural and deliberate to reduce the dump into ashes, the citizens demanded a probe into various angles leading to the episode.

“The heterogeneous and carcinogenic material burnt deliberately in a planned manner to cause harm is a dangerous pursuit adopted with a criminal intent to destabilize the atmosphere and human habitat and needs a thorough investigation,”

the citizens led by Parag Raikar, Raju Iyar and others demanded.

The citizens further demanded to know the careless attitude and failure on part of the authorities for playing with the lives of innocent public and the administration taking no responsibility for their   misdeeds and lapses.

The citizens demanded a permanent solution to the issue, saying the Margao Municipal Council and the core committee had done nothing to resolve the Sonsodo imbroglio, demanding to know

why the administration could not cap the fire since the last six days.
