CANACONA
With authorities still struggling to tackle the Sonsodo fire mishap and its effects, the Director of Municipal Administration (DMA) Dr Tariq Thomas on Saturday inspected the Garbage Treatment Plant (GTP) at Dumane-Canacona and directed local civic authorities to clear the huge untreated garbage heaps on a war-footing,
The Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) has claimed that over 80 tonnes of garbage have been treated at the Dumane GTP, which has been called Canacona’s Sonsodo for accumulation of garbage dumps in the past few months.
Dr Thomas, who visited the GTP along with CMC Chairperson Nitu Dessai and other councillors, CMC Chief Officer Sagun Velip and Municipal Engineer Vinod Kotharkar, reportedly expressed displeasure over the untreated heaps of garbage lying at the GTP, despite having appointed the Agency Recycle to treat the garbage. He directed authorities to expedite the baling of garbage before the monsoons and also sought details of the bio-digester at the GTP.
According to CMC sources, the baling of garbage dumped at GTP has been entrusted to Agency Recycle and since then the agency in association with Team Goenkar and CMC staff have been actively involved in baling the garbage.
