Citizens expose poor quality work at newly beautified Ring Road

MARGAO

The Shadow Council for Margao along with citizens assembled at the newly beautified Ring Road to expose the poor quality work executed by the PWD contractor engaged in the construction of the footpaths.

Taking a dig at the Margao representative, SCM Convener Savio Coutinho said that while the Margao MLA boasts about hundreds of crores of rupees being spent on development works in Margao, the reasons for quality being compromised should also be explained.

Pointing out to the newly constructed footpaths, Coutinho stated that cracks have already developed at several places, and the footpath has sunk nearly 10 cm below.

"As you walk over the pavers, you can feel them loose and wobbling. The state of the footpaths will be similar to what we see in front of the Margao police station," Coutinho said.

The citizens also showed the media the gaps that have developed between the pavers and the retaining wall, which very clearly suggested that the retaining wall had tilted outwards and could collapse in the near future.

The SCM and citizens have demanded an inquiry into what they termed as shoddy work executed by the PWD contractor and called for its repairs and restoration at the cost of the defaulting contractor.

Coutinho stated that the sole purpose of raising issues in Margao is exclusively to awaken the people so that they realise how they are being misguided and taken for a ride by their representative.

The SCM convener has expressed happiness that Madgaokars have indeed started to realise and understand the ills plaguing the city.

Arch Carlos Gracias, Adv Snehal Onskar, Manuel Pereira, Radha Kavlekar, Robert Vaz, Damodar Onskar were part of the press briefing held along the ring road near Konkan Railway station Margao.
