On a day when the Sancoale Comunidade demolished 43 illegal structures on its land, the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Thursday demolished four illegal structures at Fakir Galli in Mangor-Vasco.

Ward councillor Amay Chopdekar said the structures were demolished after giving sufficient warnings to the residents.

"We have demolished four structures in our Ward 18 at Fakir Galli and these structures were like temporary sheds where people kept goats, hens and other equipment by making it like a room,” said Chopdekar.

“Some people had even made a shed to park their vehicles and these structures were demolished because we had promised the people that a road would be developed in the area.”

“Many people from Sai Nagar area in Fakir Galli use the road through the hill to come to the highway and then they have to travel in the wrong side along the edge of the road to reach Varunapuri junction and this sometimes causes accidents and people are also challaned by the police.”

To avoid these issues, Chopdekar said the council had proposed a road in this area which would be a shortcut and reach directly to Vasco.

“Work on the road in going on and these illegal structures are along the proposed road. We had sent notices to people earlier. They cooperated, removed their belongings and helped the authorities to demolish the structures," said Chopdekar.
