MARGAO
Hazard a guess when exactly were the power transformer and other electrical gadgets gutted by the massive inferno at the Margao Municipal Council’s waste dumping ground at Sonsodo.
Well, it’s a little over a year now since the power transformer and other electrical equipment were burnt in the fire, destroying property worth over Rs 40 lakh.
Sadly, a year has elapsed, but neither the power transformer nor the electrical equipment have been put in place and also the waste management shed has no permanent power connection.
High Court’s intervention in the Sonsodo waste management issue now promises to resolve the issue of power equipment at the site before the onset of monsoons.
With Sonsodo now coming under the High Court lens, the Municipal lawyer has now promised to provide the necessary transformer at the site within a month. Given that the transformer and the electrical equipment is expected to cost the civic body around Rs 50-60 lakh, the Municipality has submitted to the Court that necessary applications have already been made to the Director of Municipal Administration, promising to get the applications processed expeditiously.
The MMC’s submission found acceptance with the High Court, but not before the Court observed that the transformer should be installed within two months considering the necessity of having dedicated electricity supply at Sonsodo.
