Civil society fighting against the controversial Coastal Zone Management Plans on Thursday made a fervent plea to Goans to flood the venue of the public hearings on July 7 to lodge their protest against the draft CZMP and save Goem and Goemkarponn.
Terming the controversial CZMP as a massive assault on Goan identity, social activist Abhijit Prabhudesai on Thursday told Chinchinim villagers that the plan, if it gets the nod, will spell doom for Goem and Goemkarponn.
“Vested interests and lobbies have launched a massive attack on the people of Goa. This is the war against the people of Goa to finish Goem and Goemkarponn. Never in the history of Goa such a massive assault has been made against the people of the State. Fishing villages, fish breeding zones, mangroves, shell fish breeding areas of Sancoale-Cortalim belt and khazan lands across the State have not been shown on the plan,” he said.
Demanding that the government immediately scrap the plan in the interest of the people of Goa,
Abhijit warned that the people of Goa will not remain as silent spectators to the diabolic plan to destroy Goem and Goemkarponn.
Chinchinim Deputy Sarpanch Valentino Barretto later called for a postponement of the July 7 hearing over the CZMPs, saying the points raised during the powerpoint presentation will be placed before the special gram sabha before taking future course of action.
The powerpoint presentation was arranged by the panchayats and the Village Development Committee for the benefit of villagers.
