Congress-turned-BJP Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias on Saturday said he is ready to even quit the party if his supporters demand that he should not stay in the BJP over the injustice done to the people by reserving the Guirdolim Zilla Panchayat seat for women.
Clafacio’s supporters and workers called on him at his residence on Saturday morning after news spread that the Guirdolim ZP has been once again reserved for women. This is the third time in a row that the ZP has been reserved for women and has come at a time when Clafacio had kicked off his campaign in support of his candidate Shailesh Jotkar.
The Cuncolim MLA is believed to have first taken up the matter with Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar last night itself and spoke to BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade on Saturday to complain about the injustice done to the people of his constituency.
“I was shocked to hear the Guirdolim seat has been once again reserved for women for the third time in a row. How the Panchayat Director has taken the decision remains unknown,” he said.
On a question, Clafacio said, “If my supporters want me to quit the BJP on the matter, I will not hesitate. I had joined the BJP to usher in the development of Cuncolim constituency and not to make money. I want to tell all and sundry that I am not a slave and I will always raise issues in the interest of my people and constituency”.
Clafacio said he has conveyed his sentiments to the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to study the matter and issue a corrigendum to undo
the wrong.
