The redeveloped Margao wholesale fish market is yet to be commissioned, but the gutter beneath the new platform is already clogged with plastic and other waste.
A visit to the market showed that renovation work is nearly complete, and the market is waiting to be opened. However, the area under the new platforms has been occupied by migrant vendors, and waste from illegal fishing activities has choked the gutter with plastic.
This issue is concerning, especially since the SGPDA has claimed that the contractor appointed by the planning authority cleans the market after business hours.
