MARGAO
Burglars successfully burgled a closed house in a busy locality at Pajifond, decamping with gold ornaments worth lakhs of rupees, besides cash of Rs 50,000.
The two inmates of the house are presently staying in a old age home. On Thursday, when they visited the house, the owners found the door open.
Their worst fear turned true when they found that the miscreants have effected entry into the house by removing the window grills. Once they gained entry into the house, the miscreants ransacked the house including the two cupboards where they managed to lay their hands on antique gold jewellery.
The miscreants are believed to have made merry by consuming liquor stacked inside the house before making good their escape.
Women and Children’s right activist Auda Viegas has expressed shock over the daring burglary in a closed house located right alongside the main Pajifond road in a busy locality. “It only goes to show that the house was under the lens of the miscreants. I hope the police would intensify patrolling to keep the miscreants at bay”, she said.
She added; “The elderly owners of the house are putting up in an old age home. They sometimes visit the house and return back to the old age home. Today, when they returned home, they found to their shock that the miscreants have lifted away their gold and cash from the cupboards”.
The Fatorda police is investigating.
