Parsekar sets July 20 deadline to submit ESDM project report to Centre

The next few days will decide the fate of the ESDM park.
On one hand, Chief Minister, Laxmikant Parsekar, has given a deadline of July 20 to the team working on this project to submit its detailed project report (DPR) to the central government inorder to get funds, while on the other, the State government is in talks with companies dealing in electronics to set up their units in the upcoming ESDM park.
Nilesh Phaldesai, managing director of Info Tech Corporation of Goa, said, “Yes, we are talking to five companies to convince them to set up their anchor units in Tuem ESDM park. These anchor units will attract ancillary units”.
If the State government finally manages to convince companies to set up their anchor units, then chances will be very high that Tuem ESDM park will be successful. And that, in turn, will improve the possibility of it getting the funding from central government.
Only a few days are left to go for July 20, which is CM’s deadline to submit the DPR. But, as of now, it is not clear whether companies will be setting up anchor units in Tuem park or not. Clearly, not much time is left.
But, what exactly is an anchor unit? For example, a computer manufacturing factory is an anchor unit. Such a unit, typically, does not make motherboards, keyboards and other parts, which go into a computer. For those parts, it would require an ancillary unit. Therefore, if a computer manufacturing factory comes up at Tuem ESDM park, it will give a fillip to ancillary units too.
The central government has a scheme under which it funds 50 per cent of the
project cost of a greenfield electronics manufacturing cluster subject to a ceiling of Rs 50 crore. It is this scheme that the State government is hoping to get the much needed funding for Tuem ESDM park.
