Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said the tribal youth should take inspiration from Tribal leader and former Minister Prakash Velip to do something for the community.
Speaking at a program held to mark the 70th birthday of Prakash Velip at Navelim here on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said Prakash Velip has worked hard for the upliftment of the tribal communities during his journey.
“Prakash Velip is a perfect example who had strived hard for the upliftment of the tribal communities over the years. The tribal youth should take an inspiration from Velip and take the community forward”, the Chief Minister said.
Lauding Velip for leading the Quepem Urban Cooperative Bank, Adarsh Cooperative society and the education society, the Chief Minister said Velip started his journey as a teacher at Bicholim before delving into politics.
“Velip rose to become an education minister and has put in immense work in the cooperation sector during his life. He not only made loans available to downtrodden through the Quepem urban cooperative bank, but provide marketing avenues through the Adarsh cooperative society which has helped to raise the standard of living of the farmers”, he said.
Cooperation Minister Subhash Shirodkar, Social Welfare Minister Subhash Faldesai, Sports Minister Govind Gawde, MLAs Alton D’Costa and Ulhas Tuemkar were amongst the dignitaries who spoke at the program.
