The proposal of a new four-lane bridge across Mapusa River, two new power sub-stations and feasibility report for underground cabling of power lines in the city were the key takeaways at the review meeting held by Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar with department officials and councilors of the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) on Tuesday.
The CM continued to pour his bounty on the development-parched city with government now planning to dismantle the current Tar Bridge across Mapusa River and build a new four-lane bridge in its place to ensure smooth movement of vehicles across the bridge.
"The CM has decided work on the new bridge will be entrusted to the National Highway Authority of India,
which is undertaking the six-laning of the NH17. The four-lane bridge will complement the four-lane underpass coming up at Bastora," said MMC Chairperson Rohan Kavlekar.
He said plans were afoot to lay foundation stone for the bridge work by December this year and work on the bridge will be completed within a year.
MMC in June this year had passed a resolution to construct a parallel bridge across Mapusa River.
The chief minister has directed the Mapusa electricity department to conduct a feasibility report for underground cabling of power lines in the city.
"The CM has asked the power officials to prepare a report in such a way as to avoid digging of roads wherever possible by taking local councilors into confidence. The cables could be put under the footpaths for example," Kavlekar said.
The power department
officials have also been directed to replace all the old
and weak electricity poles in the city.
The chief minister has also enquired on the progress in setting up two new power sub-stations at Badem, Assagao and Carras-vaddo in Mapusa.
It was informed that tenders for the two sub-stations have been passed and work on the project was likely to start within a month's time.
The electricity department has also been asked to submit a report on shortage of field staff.
The chief minister assured sufficient police personnel in the traffic and the main police station in the city.
Traffic department were likely to get two lady PSIs and other additional staff to monitor various streets in the city.
The PWD water and roads was directed to complete major pending projects.
Water pipelines at Gaunsa-vaddo, Morod and Dattawadi, Khorlim, will be replaced with new ones at an estimated cost of Rs 72.20 lakh, Rs 45.6 lakh and Rs 82 lakh respectively.
Senior officials of various departments including PWD, police, GSUDA, electricity, JICA, etc, were present.
Most city councilors and GSUDA Vice-Chairman, Sandip Falari was also present at the review meeting.
