"Irrespective whether a particular tiatr generates a turnover of Rs 20 lakh or not, we have to adopt a stand that the Chief Minister should make a strong case before the GST Council that the State will not accept GST on tiatr," Sardesai said, while addressing a function organised by the Tiatr Academy of Goa at the Gomant Vidya Niketan here to celebrate the birth anniversary of late Rosario Rodrigues.
On the occasion, Lifetime Contribution to Khell Tiatr Awards 2017 were presented to Duarte Amancio F A Pereira (Amacin Perry), Crista Furtado e Fernandes (Crista) and Tome Antonio C Santosh (T A Santos).
Reacting to the request made by Tiatr Academy of Goa president Agostinho, the TCP Minister said he has taken suo moto cognizance of the GST's implication for tiatr and has presented the case before the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar with a plea to fight the case before the GST Council.
"We are all to protect and preserve tiatr. It is part and parcel of Goan culture. We have been criticised in tiatr, but I believe that dissenting voice helps to protect democracy. When politicians make mistakes, they need to be corrected," he said.
Earlier in his welcome address, Tiatr Academy of Goa, president Agostinho said though many a tiatrist may not come under the GST regime since their turnover may not touch the Rs 20 lakh figure annually, he appealed to the TCP Minister to remove the GST sword hanging on the tiatr fraternity once and for all.
