Applauding the contribution of the medical fraternity in the fight against Covid, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday assured to accommodate health workers who have been working on contract in government service.
He also said that the government will take a favourable decision on issues concerning AYUSH doctors who have been working on a minimal salary.
“There are many who are working on a contract basis in the health department. They may be doctors, nurses or para-medical staff. We will try and accommodate as many as possible in government service by viewing all the laws,” Sawant said.
“We will give priority to those who worked during the pandemic whenever job vacancies arise in the health department. We will not remove any of this contract staff. They will continue to work in the department in future,” he added.
The Chief Minister was addressing a gathering of doctors who were felicitated for their contribution in the fight against the pandemic on the occasion of the National Doctor’s Day at Ravindra Bhavan in Sankhalim.
Continuing, Sawant said a lot of AYUSH doctors were working on bare minimal salaries in various government health centres and assured to look into their issues.
Earlier, applauding the contribution of the medical fraternity in the fight against the dreaded virus, the CM said they all worked in risky conditions.
“We are all aware that the doctors, nurses and para-medical staff took a heavy personal risk while treating Covid patients. We appreciate their contribution towards society,” he said.
Going down memory lane, the CM disclosed how the government worked from scratch to build up the infrastructure to tackle the rising Covid cases right from day one on March 25, 2020, when the first two positive cases were detected in Goa.
“We are aware a lot of Goans died fighting the dreaded virus due to various reasons but we started from nil and built up an infra to take the virus head-on,” he said.
He said the government has all necessary precautions and was 100 per cent ready to tackle the third wave if at all it strikes.
“Now, it is the responsibility of the people. All those who are eligible should take the vaccine,” Sawant said.
Director of the Directorate of Health Services, Dr Jose D’Sa, State immunization officer, Dr Rajendra Borkar and other senior doctors were also present on the occasion.
