Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday inaugurated the interim bus stand at Mapusa, which is expected to ease the congestion and also allow redevelopment and construction of the new bus stand.
Sawant said the foundation stone for the main Mapusa KTC bus stand would be laid within the next six months.
Others present on the occasion included Mapusa MLA Joshua De Souza, MMC Chairperson Shubhangi Vaingankar, MMC Deputy Chairperson Chandrashekhar Benkar, Councillor Prakash Bhivshet, GSIDC officials Harish Adkonkar, Jude Carvalho, Madan Fatarpekar and others.
Mapusa MLA Joshua De Souza said the present bus stand will be shifted to the new one in phases.
“This bus stand will accommodate 50 buses, 11 tempos, 40 four-wheelers, 15 rickshaws and 64 two-wheelers. Besides, there will be a shed, canteen and toilets, while a 10-metre-wide road will be completed within the next 10 days to provide access to the Mapusa Yard," said Joshua.
