CM must accept demands of sugarcane farmers: AAP

PANAJI
Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday while extending its unstinted support to the sugarcane growers protesting at Sanguem said they were right in not trusting the fotting Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and demanding a written assurance from him.

AAP Goa convener Rahul Mhambre said the Pramod Sawant government has become insensitive to the needs and aspirations of the people of Goa and only dances to the tunes of its Delhi masters.

“Otherwise why did the chief minister not act on the memorandum submitted to him on December 22 and moved only when the farmers started their protest?” he asked.

Rahul said the chief minister just ignored the memorandum presuming that the poor and suffering farmers will not do anything and blindly accept anything and everything that the government doles out to them.

He said the farmers were right in not accepting the verbal assurances from the fotting chief minister and demand the same in writing and said AAP stands by the farmers demand that the assurances be given in writing as otherwise the assurances have no meaning particularly as they are coming from a person who is known to be a habitual liar.

Rahul also asked Deputy Chief Minister Babu Kavlekar not to fall prey to the machinations of the chief minister. “You have only recently joined the BJP and do not know how manipulative the chief minister is and how often he lies,” he advised Babu Kavlekar.

He asked the deputy chief minister to prevail upon the chief minister to give the assurances in writing or asked Babu Kavlekar to give it in writing as he is the deputy chief minister of the State.
