MARGAO
It was Friday morning. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant descended on Cuncolim from where he openly batted for the double-tracking, coal transportation and other projects.

The Chief Minister sent out the message in support of these projects in the presence of the Deputy Chief Minister and Quepem MLA, Chandrakant Kavlekar, Salcete’s lone minister and Velim MLA Fiilpe Neri Rodrigues and Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias, even going to the extent of saying that all these three MLAs will be part of the government in the future as well.

Hours later, around Friday noon, people from the constituencies of Quepem, Velim and Cuncolim took to the roads in hundreds under the banner of Goyant Kollso Naka with one voice, to convey a loud and clear message that they will not rest till the controversial projects are scrapped.

In fact, ahead of the showdown with the railway authorities on Sunday at the Chandor railway crossing on November 2, hundreds of people joined the GKN yatra on Friday, sending a clear signal to the government and the authorities not to take the people for granted, but to scrap the contentious issues.

The yatra which began at Betul before it wended its way through the constituencies of Velim and Cuncolim before culminating at Quepem.

People voluntarily participated in the yatra in Velim, Assolna, Chinchinim, Cuncolim, Sarzora and Paroda, before it culminated at Quepem.

“This massive yatra is a clear-cut message to the government headed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to think twice on the controversial projects and scarp the same. People of Goa have decided that they will not rest till the projects are scrapped,” informed Goyant Kollso Naka co-convenor Abhijit Prabhudesai.

Impressed over the huge turn out of the participants at the yatra on Friday, Abhijit said people’s power will finally triumph in the battle against the controversial projects.
