MARGAO
Days after launching “Swayampurna Goa and Atmanirbar Bharat” to take the government schemes to the doorsteps of the beneficiaries, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said not a single physically disabled person will be left out of the scheme.

The Chief Minister announced that all the physically disabled persons across the state will be covered under the scheme and will receive hearing aids, Jaipur foot and three-wheel cycles within the next one month.

“Government officers appointed under the Swayampurna Mitra for each village and the nodal officers at the taluka level will get all the physically disabled person under the scheme within a month,” the Chief Minister said at Cuncolim while launching the DRDA scheme Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme (MGNREGA).

Under the MGNREGA scheme, a project for the cleaning and desilting of the Selaulim irrigation canal project in Sanguem, Quepem and Salcete taluka for a length of 90 kms costing Rs 80 lakhs will be taken up by the government.

Launching the scheme in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar, Fisheries Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues and Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias at Cuncolim on Friday morning, the Chief Minister stressed the need to reach the benefits of various schemes to the last person in the state.

Commenting on the MGNREGA scheme the Chief Minister said the government was earlier executing the scheme with the help of contractors, who were bringing the labour from outside the state. “In the past, we had no idea whether the works were properly executed or not because the contractor was bringing labourers from outside the state. Under the scheme, the state would now get the double benefit, one that locals will get the work and they will undertake the job diligently since the work is taken up in their own interest,” he added.
