Justifying that holding small political meetings should not be a cause for concern, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday said migrants and foreigners were more likely to spread coronavirus (COVID-19) then people from the State.
“Migrants who come here from other States or from foreign countries pose more risk of spreading the virus. These people who have come here (corner meetings) are our brothers and sisters,” Sawant said.
The CM was responding to the media whether his corner meetings could pose a risk of spreading Covid-19 to him and the people gathering at the political meetings.
Sawant hopped from place to place while trying to cover several corner meetings for the ensuing ZP elections in the State.
He said people should not worry about small meetings and he has issued instructions that meetings held in
open-air places should not be a problem.
“Coronavirus, by the grace of God has not entered Goa, and hopefully will not enter Goa. At the moment we have only one patient isolated,” the CM said.
“Our corner meetings are being held with full precautions. We are worried about the lives of the people. I am worried about the people of Goa and about Goa. At a small meeting if people are there, no one should worry,” he added.
The CM said that the health minister had recommended cancellation of Shigmo parades because there could be participation of foreigners at the parade.
“If we had taken a sudden decision (to scrap Shigmo), then the decision would be against the people. There was more risk in Panaji and Margao. When Shigmo is held in villages only villagers participate in it,” he said.
