Addressing a meeting of BJP volunteers in Curchorem, he also stressed on promotion of sustainable development in Curchorem but appealed to people not to oppose development projects without the necessary knowledge as it would hinder progress.
Parrikar said he was aware of problems faced by locals in and around Curchorem and said he would tackle dust pollution and the garbage issue.
“We need to stop the use of plastic bags and plastic waste, else it would be difficult to tackle plastic waste issue in future. To address the problem of garbage, it
is necessary to set up a solid waste treatment plant in Curchorem, like the one that is operational in Saligao,” said Parrikar, who informed that around 50 municipal
Chief Officers and ministers from other states had visited the Saligao garbage treatment plant.
“There is a plan to use CNG generated from municipal garbage waste for
CNG buses and we could consider this in the near future. We can also use CNG as a fuel and it can be used for generating electricity,” he added.
Parrikar also said Goa’s transport facilities need to be improved and added that bus connectivity need to be made available till late night.
Parrikar also assured to upgrade the existing fish market in Curchorem or to have a
satellite fish market project in the area.
