Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was among the many leaders who sought the blessings of Devi Lairai as the famous Zatra at Shirgao began on Friday.
He along with his wife Sulakshana visited Shirgao in the morning and prayed for the peace and prosperity of Goa and to prevent calamities in the country.
Later speaking to reporters, Sawant said Goa is moving towards becoming a model state and many schemes are being implemented for the benefit of the people.
The chief minister said he also prayed for the good health of the thousands of devotees attending the five-day festival.
Devasthan President Dinanath Gaonkar and other committee members later presented a painting of goddess to the chief minister.
Many political leaders, including Fisheries Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar, Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Tanawade, Mayen MLA Premendra Shet and BJP North Goa President Daya Karbotkar, also sought the blessings of Devi Lairai.
