Outgoing Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro has made a fervent plea to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to direct all concerned authorities to prevent any attempt to disturb the peace and harmony in the Rumdamol housing board.
While urging the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio to take strict and immediate action against the perpetrators of this culture of intolerance, Faleiro said such matters should be settled amicably before they are allowed to flare up. “I am confident that we as responsible citizens shall not fail the people of Goa and as custodians of the great Goan way of life hand over our inheritance of communal harmony to the future generations of Goa,” he said in his letter to the Chief Minister.
“Immediately on hearing of such an attempt by a person who is not a local but from another area, I requested the local police, the SP, DGP, Police and the Collector South Goa to have law and order maintained at all costs because Goa has never seen the like of such feelings at all,” he said.
Faleiro added: “Most of the local people of all communities actually abstained from associating with this ugly incident. Some outsiders not only caused the incident demonstrating intolerance but also brought more people from even outside the State to create a scene. Luckily, the timely police intervention saved the State from something, which could have been a major embarrassment to the government and Goans.”
Saying that Goa has a high reputation in the country as a tranquil state with a friendly feeling towards every other human being, Faleiro said in Goa, we never even ask the religious denomination of any individual far from showing intolerance”.
Saying that people of all communities have been residing at Bhagwati Chawl, Davorlim and at Rumdamol Housing Board since generations supporting each other and maintaining mutual respect towards each other’s families and traditions, he said “somehow, some people with the intention to disturb the peace and encourage a communal flare up, have indulged in shameful acts and misbehavior with local residents at a time when emotional sensitivity on religious grounds is high.
