The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) State President, Sadanand Tanavade, welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to repeal the three farm laws which had triggered a sustained agitation by farmers for nearly a year.
In a statement to a local channel, Tanavade said, the prime minister has displayed magnanimity in taking back the decision of reforming the agricultural economy through these three bills owing to the sustained agitation by the farmers.
"Actually, the laws were in the interest of the farmers. It was the middlemen who were cornering most of the pie in the agro-economy. These laws aimed to diminish the role of the middlemen and give greater returns to the farmer. However, somehow there was a failure in making the farmers understand," Tanavade said.
Speaking further, the State BJP president said normally it is not easy for the Central government to take back a decision of this magnitude and it is praiseworthy that the prime minister has decided to do it.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant too welcomed the prime minister's announcement that the farm laws will be repealed.
"PM Shri @narendramodi's announcement relating to the farm laws is a welcome move, taken after extensive deliberations. On the auspicious day of 'Guru Purab' the PM highlighted in his address that the Govt shall continue to serve & support farmers and work towards their welfare," Sawant tweeted.
