Goa airport's runway lights go off after technical snag

VASCO

Flights to and from Goa airport at Dabolim faced a short delay on Friday evening after the runway lights went off for a few minutes due to a technical snag.

When the runway lights went off, Goa airport took to its Twitter handle and stated that “As per information received from Naval ATC, runway lights are not available as of now at Goa Airport due to a technical snag.”

“Workers on the job. Delays are expected in arrival and departures as of now. The update shall be intimated as soon rectified,” stated the Tweet.

However, a few minutes later, Goa airport posted another tweet to state that runway lights had been rectified and operations were back to normal.

There were claims that a Goa-bound flight from Delhi had been diverted to Mumbai.

When contacted, Airport Director Gagan Malik said the technical snag had lasted for only a few minutes.

"Yes, it is true that there was a technical snag and runway lights went off for around ten minutes due to some short circuit. But the navy immediately got in action and rectified the issue in quick time and operations were normal. There was no flight diversion due to this technical snag," said Malik.
