Sources said the process of filing of nomination papers will begin at 10 am on Tuesday and will end by 12 noon.
The group led by vice-Chairperson Mario Moraes, which was instrumental in dislodging Chairperson Lavita Mascarenhas is likely to propose the candidature of Polita Carneiro for the seat.
After the election of the Chairperson, Mario may quit the post of vice-Chairperson to make way for Councilor Shashank Desai to take over the reigns of office.
The Cuncolim Municipal Council had hit the headlines over the spate of no confidence motions tabled by the groups affiliated to the Vice-Chairperson Moraes and outgoing Chairperson Lavita.
While the five-member BJP-backed group in the 12-member civic body had once bailed out Lavita after the rival group had tabled the no trust motion, the BJP group now seemed to be a divided house as evident by the fact that two members of the group were instrumental in voting out Lavita from office.
Given the situation, observers now say it remains to be seen when the BJP-backed will support Polita for the coveted post since she was part and parcel of the party-backed group.
