In an interesting development, Cuncolim Municipal Vice-chairperson, Shashank Desai on Saturday directed his ire at Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias, saying the MLA has not executed a single project in the constituency till date.
Shashank, who belongs to the ruling Cuncolim Municipal Council panel backed by the Cuncolim MLA, has set five months for Clafacio to usher in development or threatened to bring the people of Cuncolim on the roads.
Addressing the media, he said several issues, including pollution, jobs, besides the Cuncolim bypass are staring at the people, but the MLA has not been able to address these. “I had joined the MLA’s panel with the hope of development. Now, it is almost four months, but the MLA only hands out promises while the ground reality remains unchanged,” he said.
Asserting that the Cuncolim municipal area has not witnessed development since the last one year, Shashank said the MLA should prove his capability, citing the NH Cuncolim bypass issue which has remained unresolved till date.
The CMC Vice-chairperson further questioned the letter written by Clafacio’s firm Jolly Constructions for the release of security deposit of Rs 35 lakh. “The matter is pending with the Anti Corruption Branch of the Vigilance department and it would not be prudent for the civic body to release the security deposit without a nod from the agency,” Shashank said.
He warned that he would bring the people on the streets if the issues like jobs are not addressed by the MLA, saying “we will sit on a hunger strike in front of CMC if my demand is not met”.
