More significantly, Kishore Shet’s entry gives the ruling group a majority in the council, after the ruling and opposition groups were tied in the 10-member council.
Led by CMC Chairperson Prathana Naikgaunkar and Khot, the six-member group met the chief minister to seek his support in maximum benefits to the CMC.
Parrikar reportedly assured his support to the council, but advised the councillors to give him some time before he addresses their requests.
However, CMC Chairperson Prathana Naikgaunkar and Deputy Chairperson Samita Dhuri found it difficult to get the government’s backing and had frequently accused then minister Ramesh Tawadkar of blocking projects as his group was not in power in the council.
The political equations quickly changed during the assembly elections and with Tawadkar denied the ticket,
he contested as a rebel candidate but lost in Canacona
constituency.
When contacted, Mastimoll councillor Kishore Shet said, “I was always a BJP supporter, but developments during the assembly elections distanced us and I have now joined hands with the ruling group.”
