The Coast Guard provided assistance for disaster relief in different parts of the State, which were affected following heavy rains.
The Coast Guard stated that railway and road lines were disrupted as most rivers were flowing with fury and the State government sought aerial reconnaissance and disaster relief assistance from the Coast Guard.
Four sorties were conducted by the white Chetak pilots towards Ganjem-Ponda to assess the situation of impairment and those stranded people seeking rescue. The sorties were prepared with life jackets and buoys should they have to respond to a search and rescue scenario, stated the Coast Guard.
The area of operation at Dhaukond in Dharbandora taluka continued to be the focus area for the district administration.
Two more helicopter sorties were planned in the later half of the day to distribute relief material in form of packed food (200 packets) and supplementing cartons of drinking water.
In addition, an in-house Flood Response Team has been created at the local Coast Guard establishment at Chicalim with able bodied men and rescue gear, the Coast Guard added.
