Coastal Salcete connected to HT 11 KV underground cabling

Coastal Salcete, spanning right from Cavelossim to Carmona, Orlim, Varca, Benaulim, Colva, Betalbatim and Seraulim was on Saturday connected to the HT 11 KV underground cabling at a cost of Rs 87.31 crore, with Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar promising local MLA Churchill Alemao to take up pending power projects in the constituency on a priority basis.

MARGAO:
The Power Minister commissioned the underground line in the presence of Alemao, Chief Electrical Engineer Laxmikant Kolvekar, Executive Engineer Santosh Lolienkar, sarpanchas of Benaulim Remy Fernandes and Colva Menino Fernandes at the Dando grounds, Benaulim on Saturday.
Work on the Rs 87.31 crore underground cabling project had commenced way back on October 21, 2014, which is now expected to give major relief to the power consumers inhabiting the coastal villages. “The underground cabling project will solve 75 per cent of the power problems facing the coastal belt. Entire Benaulim constituency will be covered with LED illumination in the next 20 days,” Madkaikar assured local MLA Churchill Alemao.
Referring to the demand made by Alemao for a sub-station in Colva village, the Power Minister said the department will take up the work on a priority basis after taking possession of land from the Tourism department.
The Power Minister thanked Ms Sterling and Wilson Ltd, the company which executed work on the underground cabling, saying the company has made provision for a fault finding machine along the cabling work.
In his brief address, Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao expressed confidence that Madkaikar will do justice for Benaulim constituency. “I have requested the Power Minister to take up work on the Colva sub-station on a priority basis,” Churchill added.
Executive Engineer Santosh Lolienkar also spoke.
