Coding and robotics will soon be part of the regular curriculum for students of classes VI to VIII, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Wednesday.
Addressing the National Youth Parliament which got underway at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee stadium in Taleigao on Wednesday, Sawant said: "The Coding and Robotics Education in Schools (CARES) scheme was announced in the budget. Students in class VI to VIII will have this programme in their regular curriculum."
The aim of introducing coding and robotics is to promote interactive pedagogy and kindle interest among the kids for futuristic challenges, Sawant added.
Sawant also said that in the next two years, more detailed and advanced topics in the field will be introduced, adding that the advanced module of the course will be taught in after-school hours so that the additional subject matter is integrated into the existing system rather than disrupting it.
According to experts, the introduction of the coding and robotics module will imbibe in students computational and programming skills besides design thinking, he added.
The coding and robotics programme in schools is being driven by the Directorate of Technical Education and a project management unit has been formed to execute it. Some 500-odd teachers have already been trained, and it is being implemented in 367 government and aided institutions across the State.
