The traffic police immediately acted and shifted the archway with the help of a crane to one side and cleared the road block.
Speaking to The Goan, the tourist taxi drivers said since it was a lean time, no one was injured.
“If it had to come crashing down during the flight timing, then there would have been some major calamity as tourist taxis and passengers crossing the road would have been the victims,” said a taxi driver, Santan Pereira.
Another taxi driver, Ramesh Chawan said they were anticipating that the archway would come crashing down any moment as it was dangerously shaking with the wind.
“The contractor erected it hurriedly at the last minute on Sunday and failed to firmly secure the archway,” said Chawan.
Another taxi driver, Satish Pednekar said the police should book both the contractor and the Entertainment Society of Goa for their negligence and for endangering lives of innocent people and for damaging vehicles.
“We complement the traffic police for immediately removing it with the help of a crane and cleared the road for vehicles,” added Pednekar.
