Unhappy with the Uguem panchayat and BDO authorities for failing to initiate actions against the illegal constructions on government land at Cotarli-Sanguem, two residents have now petitioned the South Goa Collector to act quickly before the matter goes out of hand.
Constancio Mascarenhas and Santano Rodrigues, both from Sanguem, said they have been complaining to various authorities to initiate necessary action against those involved in the construction of illegal houses on government property at Cotarli village.
Uguem panchayat authorities have, however, shown scant respect to the complaint lodged by the villagers and this has given an upper hand to those involved in illegal construction activity, Rodrigues complained.
“As of now, three constructions have already come up at site and residents fear more constructions, with authorities continuing to remain quiet in the matter,” Rodrigues said and expressed his doubts if the panchayat would take any action in the matter.
The complainants have now urged the Collector to initiate necessary action in the matter, failing which residents from Sanguem, particularly those residing in the vicinity of the encroached land, have threatened to construct residential houses for their families as well.
