An overflowing sewage chamber and wastewater flowing from a residential building in the heart of the commercial town has left many citizens to wonder whether there’s any authority around to ensure sanitation and hygiene.
While the overflowing sewage chamber at Ambaji on the main road behind the District Collectorate building has posed a nuisance to the motorists and the nearby residents, spillage of an overflowing wastewater chamber of a residential-cum-commercial building near the
Margao police station has left the citizens with no option but to walk or ride through the water emanating foul odour.
Till Saturday noon, the wastewater from the building was flowing onto the road, which found its way to the front of the Margao police station.
Whether or not the notice issued by Margao Municipal Council Chief Officer Ajit Panchwadkar to the residential building will have any impact will be known, but the action from the civic body has apparently come late when citizens, including school students, were exposed to the health hazard.
In his notice, the Chief Officer has threatened to disconnect the water supply to the building if it fails to stop forthwith the overflowing of wastewater from the chamber on the adjacent road.
Meanwhile, social activist Camilo Barretto has slammed the PWD authorities for allowing a sewage chamber on the main road behind the Collectorate building to overflow for the last several days, causing nuisance and a health hazard to the citizens and the motorists.
Camilo pointed out that though the overflowing sewage chamber was brought to the notice of the PWD officials, there was no prompt action from the authorities all these days.
