Colleges to get free 'byte' of govt Wi-fi, laptops by Nov 15

PANAJI: In line with the government's initiative to go digital, colleges across State may soon be provided with free wi-fi facility.
"Wi-fi for data can be considered for all colleges and even higher secondary schools," said Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to a question from a student at an interaction with all the elected University class representatives (UCR) and University faculty representatives (UFRs) at State Leguislative Assembly Complex, Porvorim, on Tuesday. The Chief Minister also had a word of caution on the misuse of internet facility.
The Chief Minister also said that all students would be provided laptops after Diwali.
"I have received a message stating that an order has been issued for 45,000 laptops. Laptops have not been provided to students for the last three years. By November 15 laptops would be given to all student concerned," said Parrikar.
Meanwhile, informing that the State Government had booked 56 cases of drugs and arrested 59 accused, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar once again appealed to the MLAs to provide him with information on illegal drug trade, if they have. He even said that he was ready to risk his life for cracking down on illicit drug trade in the State.
"Some days ago I wrote a letter to all the MLAs with reference to drugs. It is very easy to make statements but very difficult to pinpoint. I am not saying that they do not know. But if someone knows anything specific, they should come and tell me," he said.
Speaking further, he said, "We have booked 56 cases and 59 people have been arrested in the last two months. We are booking cases after cases. We are going very hard on it. If someone is scared, give me the information confidentially. I am ready to risk my life. We have caught people based on information. I have even been receiving letters without any signatures."
Parrikar, in a letter to all MLAs recently, had asked the MLAs to provide him any information on the illicit drug trade for fighting the menace.
"I assure you that due cognizance and strict action will be taken on every such issue brought to the notice of the undersigned (Parrikar)", he had stated in the letter.
