Colva beach is the only beach (in the country) to be included in one of the 17 destinations across the country listed in the Union Budget to be developed as “world class tourism destinations.”

The budget, unveiled by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday, has a provision to develop certain iconic tourist sites in the country.

Colva beach is the only destination chosen from Goa, while two destinations have been chosen in Uttar Pradesh -- the Taj Mahal and Fathepur Sikri -- three in Delhi -- Humayun’s Tomb, the Qutub Minar and the Red Fort -- two destinations in Gujarat which are Dholavira and Somnath, and one each in some of the other States like Hampi in Karnataka, the Ajanta and Ellora Caves in Maharashtra, the Amer Fort in Rajasthan, Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh, Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu, Kaziranga in Assam, Kumarakom in Kerala

and Mahabodhi Temple in Bihar.

The Union Tourism Ministry had in 2018 put out a tender notice inviting bids from prospective consultants. Once a consultant is selected, the consultant will inspect the 17 sites, decide what needs to be done to turn them into “world class destinations” and then propose a cost for the projects.

Nineteen consultancy services had made enquiries with the Tourism Ministry prior to the tender notice being put out.

These are HCP Design, Planning and Management Pvt Ltd, Alia Consulting Solutions Pvt. Ltd, KPMG Advisory Services Pvt. Ltd, Mukesh & Associates, Ingenious Studio Pvt. Ltd, IPE Global, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India LLP, Infrastructure Development Corporation (Karnataka) Ltd. (iDeCK), Jones Lang LaSalle Property Consultants (India) Pvt. Ltd, INI Design Studio (Formerly Stantec Consulting), C P Kukreja Architects, Darashaw, Studio POD, Colliers International, AS Design Consultants, KPSG Infra Solution Pvt. Ltd, Aga Khan Trust For Culture, ANB Consultants, and LEA Associates.
