A survey of the business establishments carried out by the panchayat members led by Sarpanch Anthony alias Mam Fernandes unearthed the bitter fact that most of the establishments were operating sans the trade licence. Around six panchayat members, including the Sarpanch and the Secretary moved from establishment to establishment along the beach road, only to find the owners having no trade licence.

Sarpanch Anthony told the media after the inspection that the panchayat has unearthed what was feared the worst by the members that many establishments are operating without the mandatory licence. "The panchayat has not gained in terms of revenue though many business establishments are operating from the coastal village. The panchayat will explore imposing a penalty on the establishments which were operating without the licence," he said.
Colva Panchayat Secretary Sandhya Shirodkar told the media that the panchayat body will levy a penalty on the establishments which had no trade licence.
"The inspection has been held as per the decision of the panchayat body. It has been decided to carry out surprise inspection of all the business establishments. Those who have no trade licence will be penalised. The body will take a decision on the quantum of fine to be imposed on the establishments operating without trade licence," the panchayat secretary
informed.
