The Colvale Primary Health Centre (PHC) has become the latest government health facility in North Goa to be certified under the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS), achieving an impressive score of 81.19 per cent.

This makes it the second non-bedded PHC in the district, after PHC Mayem, to receive the prestigious certification.

The assessment was conducted on May 19 and 20 by experts from the National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC), New Delhi.

The success of the certification drive is being attributed to the dedicated efforts of Candolim PHC Health Officer Dr Roshan Nazareth, who was given additional charge of Colvale PHC specifically to prepare it for the NQAS evaluation.

Dr Nazareth led the initiative with the support of Dr Nidhi Sawant, the Nodal Officer of the PHC Colvale Quality Team, and four departmental heads – Dr Swati Gauns (General Administration), Dr Harshita Sawant (National Health Programmes), Dr Shweta Kumbhar (Laboratory) and Dr Sneha Naik Chopdekar (OPD).

Their coordinated teamwork, along with active participation from all staff members of the PHC, ensured the facility was NQAS-ready in record time.

Significant contributions also came from the administrative and support staff. Prasad Gaonkar (UDC) and Santosh Gaonkar (Sanitary Inspector), along with their teams and subcentre staff, played a key role in enhancing the facility’s infrastructure to meet NQAS requirements.

The certification process was guided by Dr Ujwala Prabhudessai, State Nodal Officer (Quality), Dr Siddhi Ghatwal, State Consultant (Quality) and Dr Nadine Mesquita, North Goa District Consultant (Quality), under the overall direction of the Director of Health Services, Dr Rupa Naik.

Colvale PHC now joins the ranks of other certified centres such as PHC Candolim and AAM-SHC Arpora-Nagoa, marking another milestone in Goa’s ongoing push to strengthen quality healthcare delivery at the grassroots level.
