The Aquem Baixo Panchayat on Tuesday directed the sewerage department officials to remove the pipes leading to a rivulet, suspecting that the pipes may be used to discharge sewage in the water body.
Sarpanch Floriano Danny Fernandes along with Panch member Inacio Dias and local villager Claudius Dias inspected pipes connecting a sewage chamber to the rivulet.
Expressing apprehensions that the pipes will be used to discharge sewage from the underground line to the rivulet, the authorities were told to remove the pipes forthwith.
The sewerage officials maintained that a generating set and pumping station is being installed near the sewage chamber for pumping of the sewage.
They further pointed out that there’s no sewage flow in the line since the underground line is not yet commissioned.
The Sarpanch, however, directed the officials to remove the pipes leading to the rivulet before taking up any further work.
“The Panchayat have issued the directions to the sewage authorities as a matter of caution. We suspect the pipes are connected to the rivulet to discharge the sewage”, Danny told the media.
