Colvale p’yat demands measures to prevent mud from flowing on highway

The Colvale Panchayat has petitioned the Bardez Mamlatdar to direct the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to construct a road divider or protective railing along the NH-66 highway between Colvale and Caraswada, to block rainwater and mud from flowing on the road.

The panchayat claimed that the contractor involved in the roadwork had assured to construct protective railing but had failed, thereby posing a serious threat to motorists and commuters along the route during the rains.

On May 20, the Panchayat, PWD, NHA, Water Resource Department and the contractor concerned had jointly inspected the portion of road between Colvale and Caraswada.

They noticed that stones and mud had been placed on both sides for the road-widening project and concerns were raised that during the rainy season, the mud and stones would flow with the rainwater on the road, endangering the motorists.   “The rains have almost arrived, but there is no sign of any road divider or protective railing and so, the Colvale Panchayat brought this to the notice of the mamlatdar,” said Colvale Sarpanch Nityanand Kandolkar.

When contacted, Bardez Mamlatdar Laximikant Kuttikar confirmed having received a letter from the Colvale Panchayat.
