The Comba railway crossing was shut on Sunday for vehicular traffic to facilitate cutting of trees standing close to the track.

Cranes were deployed since morning to evening to cut down the trees as the crossing remained shut for traffic since 6 in the morning till 8 pm.

Light vehicles were all diverted via the Comba subway since the crossing was closed for traffic. Heavy vehicles were returned back to the main road Khareband road to enter the city.

The operation was wound up at around 8 pm after the cranes unloaded the logs into a waiting vehicle.

Incidentally, locals hoped that the space created by the cutting of the tree should not be allowed to be encroached upon to set up gaddas at the site. Already, a couple of gaddas are operating near the Comba railway crossing despite notices issued by the PWD for their removal since they fall in the road widening area.
