Delay in the restoration of roads excavated for laying of gas pipeline in the village raised an uproar at the gram sabha of the village Panchayat of Rumdamol on Sunday.
The meeting chaired by Sarpanch Mubeena Fanibandh also saw members raising the issue of garbage and sanitation.
Members highlighted at the meeting how the roads dug up for the laying of the gas pipeline have turned into a death trap for the people. They pointed that the gas pipeline work has left several storm water drains damaged, even saying that water had entered the houses of local residents with the drains lying clogged with debris.
Former Sarpanch Vinayak Volvoikar said more than a month has passed since the work on the gas pipeline ws taken up in the village, but the restoration work has not yet started. He pointed out that inquiries have only revealed that work on the restoration of the roads has been allotted to contractors.
Demanding that the panchayat send a letter to the PWD to direct the contractors to commence the work on the restoration of the excavated roads, Volvoikar said he would pursue the matter with the MLA Ulhas Tuemkar to take up the work on a war footing.
The chair had to face question on the issue of foul odour emanating from garbage black spots, demanding timely clearance of the waste.
Ruling Panch member Saimulla Faniband later told the media that the waste problem facing the village will now be resolved with the Goa Waste Management Corporation collecting wet waste from the panchayat for treatment at the Cacora waste treatment plant.
He further said the Panchayat has taken precautionary measures this year over vector borne diseases by roping in health workers in the village to conduct anti-larvae operations. Saying that dengue death had taken place in the village last year, Saimulla said the village Panchayat has taken measures with the help of the health workers this time round as a precautionary measure.
