The Goa government has set up a committee to effectively monitor the State's Eco-Sensitive Zones including protected areas like sanctuaries and national parks.
The State level Eco-sensitive Zone Monitoring Committee is headed by the Chief Secretary and has on it two unofficial members among several government functionaries.
Goa has five wildlife sanctuaries -- Bhagwan Mahaveer, Bondla, Netravali, Mhadei, and Cotigao -- besides one National Park at Mollem and a bird sanctuary -- Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary at Chorao.
The committee will be chaired by Chief Secretary Parimal Rai, IAS, and has on it Goa University Dean M K Janarthnam, Sandeep Azrekar of the Nature Club, Mapusa and Milind Gadgil of Parshuram Grameen Vikas Saunstha, Brahmakarmali, Valpoi. Other members are all government officials.
